NINA DARYANANI
I am an adjunct professor at Parsons the New School of Design, New York City. I teach Process and Skills and Fashion Portfolio to the amazing students on the Fashion Design AAS program. I was previously one of those lucky students myself, graduating in 2006. I have a Graphic Design BA, from London, and over ten years experience in graphic design and branding. I am currently building my start up business, Lady Sippington LLC, from my home in Westchester.
CAREER PATH
I always loved crafts and sketching as a child and was eventually drawn towards a career in Graphic Design. I freelanced in London and traveled to Japan and also to Australia. In 1999, I spent a year split between Sydney and Byron Bay on a working holiday visa. I loved it there. I also traveled to Christchurch, New Zealand and worked for Yellow Pencil, an excellent branding company. I was always searching for my own style though, my own thing, so I decided to look into studying fashion design. I wanted my own label. (Doesn’t everyone?)
in May 2003, I was traveling between England and New Zealand and met my husband-to-be, a New York attorney, on the airplane. (It’s a great story). A year later, we married and I started as a fashion design student in New York City. After graduation, I interned at “Daryl K” and design assisted for “Ardistia New York.” I was surprised when I was asked to teach, by the Fashion Design Director, because it’s a passion and talent that I didn’t know I had.
A PLAN
With support from my husband, I decided to work towards a lifestyle brand that would make use of all my talents and abilities and, most importantly, be quintessentially me. I could work across design disciplines – from graphics to fashion, and also add my own personality – my English style and my travel experience.
I’m at the very beginning of a long journey that hopefully leads to a wonderful Teahouse and Shop, and a successful international business with apparel and publishing. (Ah… the dream). Right now, I’m thrilled to be able to teach and also sketch and design (and drink tea) to my hearts content. All under the watchful eye of Lady Sippington.
